- Take cover under a sturdy piece of furniture or against an interior wall to protect yourself from falling objects and debris.
- Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops. Be prepared for aftershocks.
2.Stay Indoors if Possible:
- If you are indoors, stay there. Moving during the shaking increases the risk of injury from falling objects and collapsing structures.
- Move away from windows, glass, and other items that may shatter during the quake.
3.If Outside, Move to an Open Area:
- If you are outside, move to an open area away from buildings, trees, streetlights, and utility wires.
- Avoid overpasses, bridges, and any structures that could collapse.
4.Be Mindful of Falling Objects:
- Inside, be aware of items that could fall during the quake, such as bookshelves, glassware, and heavy furniture.
- Secure heavy objects and furniture to prevent them from tipping over.
5.Have an Emergency Kit and Communication Plan:
- Prepare an emergency kit that includes essentials such as water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, flashlight, and important documents.
- Establish a communication plan with family members or roommates. Know how to contact each other and where to meet after the shaking stops.
