  Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans by Aedes mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is a common and potentially serious illness in many tropical and subtropical regions of the world, including parts of Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. How the virus is transmitted to the human body: Infected Mosquito: The dengue virus is initially present in the blood of a person who is already infected with the virus (a human host). When a female Aedes mosquito bites an infected person, it can become infected with the virus. Virus Replication: After the mosquito acquires the virus, it takes some time for the virus to replicate and multiply within the mosquito. The virus must reach the salivary glands of the mosquito to be transmitted to a new host.
